Following his experiences in the Crimea, Augustus 'Blackjack' Farnsworth established the trust to
promote peace whilst avoiding government sponsorship.
It was rumoured that when Blackjack's ship was boarded by the British Navy looking for guns, he tossed the shipment overboard, successfully cheating the hangman.
Thus, rumours of gunrunning have, fortunately, never been proven.
